About Us

For The Children is a nonprofit organization that partners with local churches to create life-changing moments for children who have experienced relational trauma.

Royal Family KIDS Camp is a program of For The Children. It is a 5 day camp for children in local communities who have experienced relational trauma. This camp gives kids the opportunity to receive encouragement and discover purpose and hope.

Royal Family KIDS began in 1985 where the first camp took place. Since then, there have been over 200 camps serving children who have experienced foster care. As camps grew, a mentoring program was born to further serve children.

In 2020 the official name of this organization became For The Children! This allows Royal Family KIDS Camps and Mentoring programs to continue expanding under For The Children.

Why we love camp…

We care about kids and families and want to make a difference. We are ready to be part of the solution! We offer a respite week for fostering resource families and we spend time with children who need a positive voice in their lives.

We know that lives are changed by a camp experience where kids receive Royal treatment and undivided attention from volunteers who are trained and excited to build positive relationships.

Together we can combat the effects of family trauma, homelessness, domestic violence, academic failure, addiction, incarceration, poverty and instability which burdens the life journey of these precious kids. For many, a week at camp will actually redirect the trajectory of their lives!

CAMP is a place to discover HOPE and a place to feel LOVED

“The overall effectiveness of Royal Family KIDS camps that I have experienced is that one week at camp can be as effective as one year of counseling sessions.”

Becca C. Johnson, Ph.D.

Who We Are

Salem RFKC is hosted by Family Life in West Salem and brings together those who share a common concern and compassion for children separated from their parents and homes.

We are moms and dads, teenagers, grandparents, bus drivers, teachers, construction workers, nurses, chefs, pastors, students, -  we are a team of willing volunteers  - who want to serve others and make a lasting difference in our own backyard.

Royal Family KIDS Camp provides an avenue for members of the community to come together and work side-by-side to bring memorable moments to our campers.

For many of us, it’s the highlight of our year - and the highlight of our lives!

Bob Robison Camp Director

Bob has been the director of Salem RFKC since 2018. He has served at this camp since 2006. Bob has a background in construction and is currently a teacher.

“I have a heart to serve these kids and our volunteers because I’ve seen lives changed through RFKC. Campers get to experience love, joy and compassion and our volunteers grow when they serve selflessly. I know my life has been changed forever!”

Director Bob loves silliness at camp.

Jenny Jones Assistant Camp Director

Jenny has been a part of camp since 2022. Jenny brings excitement, energy, and deep encouragement and passion to our team and the campers we serve.

“I have a heart for people, especially kids. Camp is an opportunity to serve in such a selfless way, yet at the same time is so rewarding. The week of camp allows these kids to set aside ‘life’ for a week. During this week, they learn new things, make new friends, and have more fun than they know what to do with. It also is a safe environment for them to be seen, heard, and loved just as they are.

“God is simply looking for those who are willing. He doesn’t call the equipped, but he equips the called. What is he calling you to do?”

Where We’ve Been

In 2005, the Salem, Oregon Royal Family KIDS camp started by holding its first week-long summer camp for kids in Marion and Polk Counties. Since then, we’ve served close to 564 children! We’ve received many testimonies from fostering resource families sharing the life-changing impact upon their children. It takes around 100 Volunteers per Camp - which means over 1700 volunteers have rallied to participate in RFKC!
